Elizabeth C. Doak
AttorneyElizabeth Doak joined Meriwether and Tharp, LLC two years ago, and has worked exclusively in family law ever since. Elizabeth’s passion is to help others through the entire divorce process and work to help parties reach an amicable resolution. Elizabeth has assisted in the successful litigation of a variety of cases involving divorce, child custody, modification, contempt, and uncontested divorces. She derives her greatest joy from knowing that she has, even in a small way, helped her client through his or her divorce.
Elizabeth graduated from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism where she served as Editor-in-Chief for the university yearbook, and interned at the Catalyst, a Chicago-based magazine focusing on issues related to public education. Elizabeth is a strong writer and can clearly articulate and argue for her clients to opposing parties, opposing counsel, and the Court.
Elizabeth attended the University of Tennessee College of Law where she majored in Advocacy and Alternative Dispute Resolution, and her education included advanced courses in mediation and negotiation. Elizabeth is trained as a civil mediator and is registered with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, which allows her to serve as a mediator in a variety of civil law suits. Elizabeth’s familiarity with various negotiation strategies helps to assist her clients in reaching an agreement that reflects their best interests and desires.
During law school, Elizabeth worked as an advocate for individuals with disabilities at the Disability Resource Center, and fought for greater access to Knoxville’s public transit system. She also served as a student attorney who represented victims of domestic violence and gained orders of protection via contested hearings and trials in Knox County’s Fourth Circuit Court through the University of Tennessee’s Domestic Violence Clinic. On the weekends, she volunteered with Legal Aid of East Tennessee. Elizabeth brings her passion to help others to her family law practice, and understands that going through a divorce can be a very difficult process for parents and for children. Elizabeth’s legal advice incorporates her knowledge of the law but also her sensitivity to the mental and emotional stresses a divorce can have on an entire family.
Elizabeth is particularly focused on the wellbeing of the children involved in any divorce and is a trained Guardian Ad Litem. She is familiar with the factors that a Court will review when determining custody and visitation issues and that the Court’s primary focus is the best interest of the child. Utilizing her extensive background in Alternative Dispute Resolution, training as a mediator and Guardian Ad Litem, Elizabeth provides advice and guidance to her clients through what can be a difficult process.
